Mayor's Statement – City Supporting Affordable Housing Development with Raising the Roof

Building on the remarkable success of the first phase which was completed in 2023, City Council has approved the sale of an additional five housing units to Raising the Roof, allowing the transformative Project Reside Sudbury to continue creating even more affordable housing in our community. These properties that were a part of the City’s existing portfolio of housing stock, located in New Sudbury and Garson, will soon provide 10 more affordable housing units for those in need.

This expansion is a testament to the power of partnerships and innovative solutions in addressing our housing and homelessness challenges. In the first phase of Project Reside Sudbury, five vacant properties were revitalized into 10 permanent, affordable homes, which offered permanent housing to 25 individuals who were either experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness at the time.  

Beyond providing housing, the project trained 31 individuals that were facing barriers to employment, empowering 24 of them to achieve full-time jobs in the trades. These results are a beacon of hope and progress, showcasing the transformative impact of this program on individuals and families in our city.

By continuing to partner with Raising the Roof, this new phase will further strengthen our community. It will not only create more safe and dignified housing but also provide life-changing training and employment opportunities for those who need them most.

Our collective work demonstrates the incredible potential of collaboration between municipal leadership, community organizations, and dedicated partners. Together, we are building a Greater Sudbury that is inclusive, compassionate, and committed to ensuring that every resident can thrive.
