Social Services

Social services are an essential part of downtown revitalization. The vulnerable population living downtown must have a place to access basic needs such as food and shelter, as well as a path to treatment and medical assistance, if they are to find their way out of homelessness and addiction.
The Downtown Action Plan commits to:
- Providing a hub of social services at the Energy Court location, operated by Go-Give, that allows for more centralized support as well as security, with a focus on helping residents secure housing ahead of the site’s planned closure in 2027.
- Greater Sudbury Police Services (GSPS) is committed to supporting this location, allowing both Police and Bylaw to focus their efforts.
Progress reported on June 23, 2026:
- Starting May 1, 2026, services at Energy Court are available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily
- A washroom trailer is available 24 hours a day.
- The City’s Energy Court Governance Committee, a team of City staff and community partners, continue to navigate challenges related to the Energy Court encampment in coordination with GSPS.
