Bridge of Nations
Bridge of Nations – Paris Street
Officially launched on July 1, 2007, the Bridge of Nations has become a celebrated landmark in Greater Sudbury, symbolizing our community’s rich ethnic diversity, multiculturalism and shared commitment to unity and peace.
The bridge proudly displays 90 flags, representing 88 different countries and nations from around the world. The Canadian flag is featured twice, and the Ontario and Franco-Ontarian flags are also included – currently the only two flags on the bridge that do not represent nations.
Greater Sudbury has been shaped and enriched by the contributions of people from diverse international backgrounds who have chosen to make this city their home. Their heritage and cultures are woven into the fabric of our community, and the flags on the Bridge of Nations reflect our belief that we are stronger through inclusion, respect and unity.
Process for Adding New Flags
The Bridge of Nations currently has no available flag poles for new flags (as of December 2025).
The City of Greater Sudbury, through Parks and Recreation Services, works in partnership with a volunteer committee to oversee the approval and placement of new flags on the Bridge of Nations.
Flags requested must represent a country or nation officially recognized by the United Nations.
Eligibility
Requests must be submitted or supported by a recognized group or organization that is part of the Greater Sudbury community.
Expression of Interest
Organizations or community groups interested in having a flag added to the Bridge of Nations can email Parks.Recreation@greatersudbury.ca or call 311 and ask to be connected with a representative from Parks and Recreation Services.
Review Process
Requests are reviewed by the Bridge of Nations volunteer committee and City staff. Evaluation criteria includes cultural and community representation, impact and relevance to Greater Sudbury and official recognition by the United Nations.
Funding Requirement: All costs associated with the installation of a new flagpole must be covered by the requesting organization or group. Full payment must be received prior to project approval.
