Make a Plan

Emergencies strike when you least expect them, usually when your family is separated and going about their day. The best way to be prepared for any emergency is to make a family emergency plan. Family emergency plans do not have to be complicated.  You can make one in as little as 20 minutes!

  • Visit the Government of Canada’s website for emergency plan templates or to make your emergency plan online.
  • Print a copy for your GO Bag Evacuation Kit and keep it up to date.

Communicating in Emergencies

To communicate with your family during an emergency, consider using text messaging instead of placing a phone call.  Texting is the most reliable form of communication when phone lines are overwhelmed or down.
