Early Development Instrument (EDI)

The Early Development Instrument (EDI) is a questionnaire developed by the Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University. The EDI is a 103-item questionnaire completed by kindergarten teachers in the second half of the school year that measures children’s ability to meet age-appropriate developmental expectations across five domains: physical health and well-being, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive development, communication skills and general knowledge.

Locally, the results provide a snapshot of child development at the school, neighbourhood and community level, which is used to inform system planning.

Results from the 2024 questionnaire will be posted here as it becomes available.
