Proposing a New Cenotaph or Monument

Requests for new cenotaphs and monuments on City-owned property are considered through the City’s community-led projects process. Before starting, it is important to understand that:

• Projects must follow the City’s Community-Led Projects process
• City approval is required before fundraising or construction begins
• A formal agreement will be established to define responsibilities and long-term maintenance
• Professional design, engineering and permitting are part of the process

Community groups are responsible for:

• Leading the project
• Developing the design and plans
• Applying for building permit (if required)
• Securing funding
• Coordinating qualified contractors

The City is responsible for:

• Reviewing and approving proposals
• Ensuring safety, accessibility and regulatory compliance
• Supporting coordination with City departments
