Residents invited to attend Virtual Information Session on Draft Housing Supply Strategy

Feb 14, 2024

Residents are invited to attend a virtual information session to learn more and ask questions about the City of Greater Sudbury’s draft Housing Supply Strategy.

The virtual session will be held via Zoom on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 2 to 2:30 p.m., but could proceed past the scheduled time based on the volume of questions received. The meeting can be accessed at www.greatersudbury.ca/drafthss.

Staff presented the draft strategy to Council at the January 16 City Council meeting. It sets a path to achieve Greater Sudbury’s housing target for the next 10 years, fill key gaps in the housing supply and ensure residents have access to housing options that meet their needs at all stages of life, regardless of income level. It recommends a series of 17 focus areas to realize the objectives and goals adopted by City Council.

In early 2023, Council directed staff to develop a Housing Supply Strategy to outline the actions required to increase the local housing supply. Along with the Municipal Housing Pledge approved by Council in December – describing strategies and actions to achieve Greater Sudbury’s assigned municipal housing target of 3,800 new homes by 2031 – a Housing Supply Strategy that encourages thoughtful, targeted and sustainable residential development is part of a broader vision to grow the city’s population and local economy.

The deadline to submit comments on the proposed plan has been extended to March 8, 2024 to provide additional opportunities for comment following the information session.
