Applications Now Open for 2021 COVID-19 Property Tax Deferral Program

Jun 1, 2021

The City of Greater Sudbury continues to help residents navigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing property owners with a deferral option on the final tax payments for 2021.

The 2021 COVID-19 Property Tax Deferral program is now available to help residents and business owners experiencing financial hardships from the COVID-19 pandemic. The new program will provide qualifying property owners an opportunity to defer the next two tax payments to December, without penalty or interest.

“The pandemic and provincial Stay at Home orders have made it a challenging year for many residents and businesses in managing finances,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger. “I hope having the opportunity to defer tax instalments by six months will help provide peace of mind for those property owners who will benefit from relief.”

The program is available to residential/farm, multi-residential and commercial/industrial property owners who meet the eligibility requirements and criteria outlined for each property type. Among other qualifying factors, property taxes must be currently paid directly to the City and not through a mortgage company with no outstanding property tax amounts owing as of April 30, 2021.

Eligibility, applications and list of supporting documents for each property type for the 2021 COVID-19 Property Tax Deferral Program are available at www.greatersudbury.ca/taxes.

The application form and necessary support documents must be received by the Tax Department no later than July 30, 2021.
