Registration Open for City of Greater Sudbury Leisure Programs
Aug 15, 2016
Registration is now open for fall fitness and recreational programs offered through the City of Greater Sudbury. Complete program information is available online at www.greatersudbury.ca/leisure or by visiting a Greater Sudbury Public Library to reserve computer time free of charge. Residents may register for programs online, at Citizen Service Centres or by dialing 3-1-1.
The City knows that it is important for residents to receive the information they need to stay active and engaged at every stage of their life and in every season. As such, we have updated the way we share information about City leisure programs to provide the most accurate and timely information available, in a variety of ways.
The majority of residents with children up to age 14, which represents the largest group registering for municipal programs, prefer to find their information online. To improve service, fitness and recreation pages at www.greatersudbury.ca/leisure have been redesigned for easier searches – including a new feature to search for activities by age. Printed flyers were also delivered this week to more than 22,000 households most likely to have children living at home, to provide information about registering for programs.
Older adults in the community, the second largest group registering for municipal leisure programs, also search online for information but there is a preference for printed materials as well. To serve this market, an Active Living Guide for Older Adults will be printed and distributed through clubs, associations, residences and Citizen Service Centres in September.
Fitness and recreational programs will be promoted four times annually, to coincide with the change of seasons. This means that residents will have access to the most up-to-date and seasonal information available to help them plan how to get active – both indoors and outdoors. The City will also be sending out flyers through local schools, using social media – including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – as well as traditional advertisements, electronic sign boards and marketing at municipal facilities and on municipal buses.
The City of Greater Sudbury is pleased to continue to serve all residents with a variety of fitness and recreational programming, including activities offered at no charge:
- Starting the week of September 5, residents are welcome to enjoy one free swim each week at five municipal pools. Search for Swimming andPools on the City of Greater Sudbury website for more information.
- Supervised youth drop-in centres begin regular programming on September 7.
- Outdoor parks, playgrounds, tennis courts and splash pads remain open for the remainder of the summer.
