Civic Award Categories

Civic Awards may be awarded to either an individual volunteer or a group in each award category. 

Award Categories:

  • Arts and Culture (Individual or Group) - Celebrates contributions to arts, literature and cultural enrichment. 

  • Community Service (Individual or Group) - Honours long-term volunteer efforts that improve quality of life. 

  • Compassionate Care (Individual or Group) - Recognizes exceptional care and support for others, especially through creative or innovative approaches. 

  • Environmental Stewardship (Individual or Group) - Highlights volunteer efforts in conservation, beautification and education. 

  • Francophone Community Engagement (Individual or Group) - Recognizes efforts that strengthen Francophone culture and inclusion. 

  • Heritage Preservation (Individual or Group) - Recognizes efforts to preserve local history and heritage sites or buildings. 

  • New Sudburian Contribution (Individual) - Celebrates new community members who have lived in Greater Sudbury for less than three years and have made meaningful contributions through volunteering. 

  • Outstanding Older Adult (Individual 55+) - Honours adults (55+) whose volunteer work has made a significant impact. 

  • Outstanding Youth (Individual 18 years or under) - Recognizes youth leadership through volunteerism and community involvement. 

  • Recreation, Sport and Leisure (Individual or Group) - Celebrates efforts to promote active, inclusive lifestyles through sports, recreation or leisure programs. 

  • Spirit of Reconciliation (Individual or Group) - Honours contributions from Indigenous individuals who promote Indigenous culture and reconciliation.
