Animation

There are a number of events held Downtown each year, and there is capacity for more frequent and consistent programming, particularly at Memorial Park and Tom Davies Square. A regular and fuller schedule of events would help keep Downtown animated, attract more visitors and discourage unwanted activity.
The Downtown Action Plan commits to:
- Providing City-led programming downtown to ensure there is activity in public spaces on a frequent and regular basis.
- Reviewing and improving the booking process for events in public spaces such as Memorial Park, Tom Davies Square, Bell Park and other event venues to make hosting events easier, with streamlined permitting, clearer fee structures and improved coordination through the Special Events Advisory Team.
- Continue making improvements to Memorial Park to enable better programming for tents, stages and to make event delivery more of a ‘plug and play’ experience.
Progress reported on June 23, 2026:
- The City has introduced a new webpage Your Summer in Downtown Sudbury to provide resources to streamline visits and events in downtown Sudbury
- Memorial Park has reopened to the public following a series of improvements, and will now be home to weekly programming from the City and various events from other community groups.
- Infrastructure improvements continue downtown to increase foot traffic over time.
