*Lake Trout: Windy Lake is one of the lakes in our area that contains Lake Trout. Lake Trout is the classic glacial relict species, often considered the model or signature species for the cold, clear deepwater lakes of the Boreal Shield. It is the longest lived, largest, and most widely distributed of the salmonids of North America. However, it exists in less than 1% of the Shield lakes and is vulnerable to exploitations and other stresses because population numbers of lake trout are low in these dilute unproductive waters and the fish are slow to mature.
