Are plants permitted in City of Greater Sudbury cemeteries?

Flower beds, shrubs and plant hangers/stands are permitted on adult lots in cemeteries with a designated adult section. Due to small lot size, plants are not permitted on lots designated for children and cremations.

Are there special guidelines for flower beds, shrubs and plant hangers?

Flower beds and shrubs must be surrounded by a border of granite or cement. Wire, plastic and wood borders are not permitted.

One plant hanger or one plant stand is permitted on each adult lot and must be contained within the border.

To ensure that plants do not encroach on adjacent lots and walkways, we ask that you restrict your planting and border to no more than 31 cm (12 inches) in length measured from the base of the monument or marker and that you use only dwarf varieties of shrubs.

Please be advised that the City of Greater Sudbury is not responsible for the cost, repair and maintenance of plants and borders.

Are bouquets, artificial flowers and ornaments permitted in City of Greater Sudbury cemeteries?

We ask that you place only one bouquet, artificial flower arrangement or wreath on each lot and that you remove all plastic wrapping. For the safety of visitors and staff, containers and decorations should not be made of glass or other fragile materials.
