Leisure and Recreation Facility Update

Sep 25, 2020

Pools:

Gatchell Pool opens to the public on Monday, September 28. Residents can book swim times online at www.greatersudbury.ca/pools, on site at the facility or by calling 311. All other pools remain open.

Washrooms at Beaches:

The City of Greater Sudbury is closing washrooms at some City beaches for the season. Beginning Saturday, September 26, washrooms at the following locations will no longer be open to the public:

•    Kalmo Beach
•    Meatbird Lake Park
•    Nepahwin Lake Park
•    Capreol Public Beach
•    Whitewater Lake Park

Washrooms at the Bell Park main beach and Moonlight Beach will remain open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate residents using the boardwalk and trail systems. These washrooms will be closed following the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Arenas:

The City of Greater Sudbury will be reopening nine more arenas in October, making them available to team and community users. Ice will be available to rent at these arenas on these dates:

•    McClelland Community Centre and Arena  - October 3
•    Toe Blake Memorial Arena  - October 5
•    Capreol Community Centre and Arena (ice pad 2) - October 5
•    Cambrian Arena - October 5
•    Chelmsford Community Centre and Arena - October 5
•    I.J. Coady Memorial Arena (Levack) - October 5
•    Centennial Community Centre and Arena  - October 12
•    Carmichael Arena - October 12
•    Sudbury Community Arena - October 19

These arenas are currently open:

•    Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex (both ice pads)
•    T.M. Davies Community Centre and Arena
•    Garson Community Centre and Arena
•    Raymond Plourde Arena

A report to City Council in August outlined the planned approach to arena reopenings. It indicated the City would identify the number of pads to reopen based on demand for ice time.
