Nominations Open May 1 for 2018 Municipal and School Board Election

The nomination period will open for the offices of Mayor, Ward Councillor, and School Board Trustee on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. The deadline for a candidate to file their nomination for municipal or school board office is Friday, July 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. 

Application forms can be found online at www.greatersudbury.ca/elections.

Those who are satisfied that they meet the prescribed requirements, as set out in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, and wish to campaign for office must first file a Nomination Paper and must also submit an Endorsement of Nomination form containing the signatures of 25 voters who endorse their nomination. Individuals who endorse candidates will be required to sign a declaration stating that they meet voter eligibility requirements on the day the endorsement is signed.  Nomination Papers and Endorsement of Nomination forms must be filed along with prescribed fee with the Clerk of the City of Greater Sudbury and may be submitted anytime beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2018 until 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018.  

Running for the Offices of Mayor or Ward Councillor?
To qualify for nomination, a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:
-    Is a resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
-    Is a Canadian citizen;
-    Is at least 18 years of age;
-    Is not legally prohibited from voting; and
-    Is not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.

Running for School Board Trustee?
To qualify for nomination, a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:
-    Is a Canadian citizen;
-    Is at least 18 years of age;
-    Is a resident within the District School Board's area of jurisdiction and is qualified to vote for members of that District School Board.

Registration of third parties for the Municipal and School Board Election also open Tuesday, May 1, 2018, and will be accepted by the Clerk of the City of Greater Sudbury until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018.
