Licensed Home Child Care

Licensed Home Child Care

Licensed Home Child Care is an alternative to centre-based Licensed Child Care. Individual home childcare providers are not licensed by the Ministry of Education; however, they are contracted by home childcare agencies that are licensed by the Ministry. Home childcare agencies oversee childcare providers who offer parents in-home childcare services. In Greater Sudbury, participating homes are overseen by either Jubilee Heritage Family Resources In-Home Child Care or Home Child Care Services- YMCA of Northern Ontario. Families can apply for licensed home programs on the Child Care Registry by selecting Jubilee In-Home Child Care and/or Home Child Care Services – YMCA of Northeastern Ontario in the neighbourhood(s) of their choice.

An individual home child care provider that is overseen by a licensed agency can care for up to six children under the age of 13, which must include any of their children under the age of four. Only three of these children can be younger than two years old.

All licensed child care centres, home child care agencies and child care providers overseen by a licensed home child care agency have a decal on display that says they are licensed. Private residences that provide in-home services will not have a decal. If you are not sure if a home you are considering is with a licensed agency, call Children Services at 705-674-4455, extension 4279.

Licensed Agencies are always looking for new home childcare providers. If you love children and would like to run a home-based business and/or be home with your children, learn more here: Become a Licensed Home Child Care Provider
