Open a Child Care Centre

Open a Child Care Centre

Any child care program serving more than five children (six in the case of a licensed home) must apply for, and receive, a Child Care License from the Ontario Ministry of Education. To learn about how to set up a licensed child care program in Ontario, visit the Ministry of Education website.

Licensed child care programs can also apply for funding agreements with their local service system manager to access operating grants, CWELCC and child care subsidies for families. In Greater Sudbury, the service system manager is the Children Services section of the City of Greater Sudbury.

Please note, at this time, the City of Greater Sudbury is not entering into new funding agreements.

To align with the Ministry of Education’s directed growth and expansion plan and our funding allocation, the City’s current focus is on expanding child care spaces with operators with existing funding agreements.
