Council to Determine Approach on Filling Vacancies

Mar 7, 2024

A Special City Council meeting will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. to deliberate on the process of filling vacant Council positions in our community.

During the meeting, Council will consider three options:

  • To appoint a candidate from the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election.
  • To initiate an application process
  • To hold a by-Election

In accordance with the Municipal Act, City Council passed a resolution declaring the offices of Ward Councillor for Wards 2 and 3 vacant at a meeting on February 27, 2024. Council has 60 days to decide how to proceed to fill the vacancies following the declaration.

The municipality is mandated to fill any Council vacancy that occurs more than 90 days before a regular election day. The current term of Council ends November 14, 2026.

Next steps will be determined based on the option approved by Council at its meeting on Friday.
