Council to Appoint New Members to Fill Vacant Positions

At a special meeting today, March 8, City Council voted unanimously to appoint candidates from the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election to fill the two vacant Council offices.

In both Ward 2 and Ward 3, there was only one other candidate in the 2022 election. Should each of the candidates qualify under applicable legislation to be elected or to hold office as a member of Council for their respective wards:

• Eric Benoit will be appointed to the office of Councillor for Ward 2
• Michel Brabant will be appointed to the office of Councillor for Ward 3

Staff will now take appropriate steps to verify each person’s eligibility under the Municipal Act and the Municipal Elections Act. Once that is completed, a by-law will be presented at the March 19, 2024 Council meeting to formalize the appointments.
