ATV By-Law

Greater Sudbury Council adopted Schedules C and D of By-law 2013-131 on June 11, 2013, to permit and regulate the use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) on some City of Greater Sudbury (municipal) roads, year-round.

Under Schedules A and B of By-law 2013-131, ATVs were already permitted to operate on some municipal roads between April 1 and November 30.

The adoption of Schedules C and D has extended the operating period on some municipal roads to the period between December 1 and March 31.

By-law 2013-131 also governs the time of day that ATVs are permitted to operate on some municipal roads and sets speed limits.

ATV Operators are advised to familiarize themselves with By-law 2013-131. View frequently asked questions for more information.

View community maps to determine which roads in Greater Sudbury have been approved for use by ATV operators in the summer and in the winter or search by road name.

Only ATVs with four wheels and a seat designed to be straddled by the driver, as illustrated on the attached pdf, are permitted on the road under Provincial regulation.

The Greater Sudbury Police website offers helpful information about the operation of ATVs.
