Choosing a school and registering your child
Families in Greater Sudbury who are getting ready to register their child for school have a variety of choices. Four school boards serve the Greater Sudbury community. All four boards offer free full day, full week kindergarten programs to children aged 4 and 5 (and to 3 year olds who will turn 4 by December 31st).
- Rainbow District School Board is the name of the English-language public school board, offering regular and French immersion programs.
- The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is the English-language Catholic school board, offering both English and French immersion programs.
- The Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord is the French-language public school board, offering programs in French.
- The Conseil scolaire Catholique Nouvelon is the French-language Catholic school board, offering programs in French.
Use this Ministry of Education tool to find the schools near your home. Check out the Ministry’s admission criteria for French-language schools. And, to find out which schools provide buses from your home, use this tool or call the Sudbury Student Services Consortium at 705-521-1234.
Registration begins in January for all children who will be turning four that year and beginning school the following September. Registering early will help ensure you’re invited to readiness programs offered by your school. If you miss the formal registration events, you can still call the school you are interested in anytime to get your child registered.
EarlyON Child and Family Centres are free family programs open to all parents, caregivers and their children aged 0 to 6. Check the EarlyON Calendar for school readiness programs for children aged 2 to 4.
