What is Emergency Management?
Emergency Management encompasses the preparation and prevention before the action, during, and the planning after an emergency happens. It is typically a non-stop operation where many individuals, groups, and communities work together to avoid or reduce the impact of an emergency.
The City of Greater Sudbury's Role in Emergency Management
In Ontario, municipalities must comply with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act as well as with Ontario Regulation 380/04.
The City of Greater Sudbury's Emergency Management Office is responsible for developing and implementing the municipality's Emergency Management Program. This includes:
- developing strategies to protect the public in times of emergency and
- educating citizens on how to be prepared for emergencies
We work closely with first responders, City departments, private industry, and non-profit organizations. We incorporate best practices into all aspects of our Emergency Management Program with the goal of making Greater Sudbury a disaster-resilient community.
City of Greater Sudbury Emergency Plans
City of Greater Sudbury Emergency Response Plan is the Framework to ensure that the city is prepared to deal with any hazards.
Community Flood Management Plan is used to prepare for the most efficient deployment of resources during a flood emergency.
Conservation Sudbury monitors watershed conditions and provides flood forecasting and water level monitoring to support emergency preparedness and response within the City.
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment is used to identify the hazards which have caused or possess the potential to cause, disastrous situations by overwhelming response capabilities
Hot Weather Response Plan is intended to alert those most at risk of heat-related illness that hot weather conditions are either imminent or currently exist and to take appropriate precautions.
Stronger Together Host Community Plan is an operational plan for hosting First Nations evacuees. As relationships continue to enhance, so will the plan, so therefore this document is considered to be “evergreen.”
