Leisure Services Usage Tracking

Leisure Services Usage Tracking

The City of Greater Sudbury will be measuring usage of trails and outdoor courts beginning in the Spring of 2022.

You may see trail and traffic counters in electrical boxes. These are not cameras.

Trail Usage

In collaboration with Rainbow Routes Association, the City of Greater Sudbury will begin installing trail counters at key locations across the city. Counting the number of people using the trails will help us understand the needs of recreational facility users and promote future development. In the coming months, look for signs with links to a survey where you can tell us how you use the trails.

Most recreational trails are maintained between May 1 and October 31. People who use these trails use them at their own risk.

Outdoor Court Usage

In early 2021, the City of Greater Sudbury was successful in its application for Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program funding. This funding supports the renewal of 14 outdoor tennis courts and 14 outdoor basketball courts across the community over the next several years.

Work will be completed in phases. An average of four to five facilities will be scheduled for revitalization during each phase. Work will commence in the spring of 2022.

The City of Greater Sudbury will be installing traffic counters at outdoor courts throughout this initiative. Counting the number of people using the courts will help us understand the needs of recreational facility users and promote future development. In the coming months, look for signs with links to a survey where you can tell us how you use the courts.

Outdoor courts are open from May to October on a first-come, first-served basis.

The French interface of our new registration system is still under development, however it is important that the City goes live with the new system as the existing registration and facility booking system is no longer supported by the vendor. Residents can still receive this service in French by calling 311 to have a French-speaking operator process bookings or registrations. The French interface will be launched in time for the fall/winter registration period.
