Feb 21, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Gerry Montpellier, Ward 3 Councillor.

“On behalf of City Council, I send my heartfelt condolences to Gerry’s wife, son, family and friends,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “He was a devoted advocate for his community and a champion of initiatives in Ward 3. Mourning the loss of Gerry while still grieving the recent passing of Michael Vagnini is an unprecedented and sorrowful experience for our Council, our employees and our community.”

“As an organization and as individuals, we are saddened to learn of Councillor Montpellier’s passing,” said City of Greater Sudbury Chief Administrative Officer Ed Archer. “On behalf of all City employees, I extend deepest sympathies to his loved ones at this most difficult time.”

In honour of Councillor Montpellier, flags at City facilities will continue to be flown at half-mast.

Information on arrangements, including details on a public book of condolences, will be available in the coming days.
