Therapeutic Pool

Update, June 25, 2020

Due to the extensive COVID-19-related safety protocols that must be in place before pools can safely reopen, and traditional low usage of these facilities during the summer months, the R. G. Dow, Gatchell, Nickel District, Onaping and Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre pools will remain closed until at least September 7. Further updates will be shared closer to that date.

Therapeutic Pool

In June 2014, Council approved the Parks, Open Space and Leisure Master Plan which recommended a therapeutic/leisure pool at the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre in Azilda.

On February 26, 2015, City Council further confirmed its support of the therapeutic/leisure pool by passing a resolution to encourage fundraising efforts and grant applications for the facility.

This project also aligns with the Quality of Life and Place priority of the Greater Together 2015-2018 Corporate Strategic Plan.

The French interface of our new registration system is still under development, however it is important that the City goes live with the new system as the existing registration and facility booking system is no longer supported by the vendor. Residents can still receive this service in French by calling 311 to have a French-speaking operator process bookings or registrations. The French interface will be launched in time for the fall/winter registration period.
