Due to the extensive COVID-19-related safety protocols that must be in place before pools can safely reopen, and traditional low usage of these facilities during the summer months, the R. G. Dow, Gatchell, Nickel District, Onaping and Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre pools will remain closed until at least September 7. Further updates will be shared closer to that date.


Become a Swim Instructor/Lifeguard

The City of Greater Sudbury offers courses that can help you become a National Lifeguard through Canada’s nationally recognized lifeguard certification program. This is the industry standard to work as a lifeguard.

We offer courses to help you become a Lifesaving Instructor and teach all Lifesaving Swim programs to various age groups, from infants to adults. Your skills can help you prepare for future jobs in aquatics, recreation and more. Certifications are recognized across Canada.

The French interface of our new registration system is still under development, however it is important that the City goes live with the new system as the existing registration and facility booking system is no longer supported by the vendor. Residents can still receive this service in French by calling 311 to have a French-speaking operator process bookings or registrations. The French interface will be launched in time for the fall/winter registration period.
