Greater Sudbury Development Corporation Supports the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre’s Newest Mining Exhibit

Released Monday, Aug 8, 2011

The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) recently approved funding valued at $50,000  for the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre (NORMHC) through the Community Economic Development fund.

Based in Greater Sudbury, NORMHC is a non-profit organization of volunteers whose interest and passions are focused on educating the public through the exhibition of the artifacts. The Museum is in the middle of a large scale improvement project that will see significant expansion through construction and acquisition of new exhibits over the next few years. The newest addition to Prescott Park is Vale's former hot metal car, used to transport molten copper to the refinery.

'I am pleased that we are able to continue to support the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre through our economic development strategy,” said GSDC Chair Scott Lund. 'The Museum continues to expand its exhibits, which further helps showcase the importance and impact the railroad has had on the local lumber and mining industries. This type of growth is an essential part of our economic development.”

The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation is the economic development arm of the City. Consisting of a 17-member board of directors, and supported by City staff, the GSDC acts as a catalyst for economic development initiatives, and supports the attraction, development and retention of business in the community.
