Government Road Bridge Open to Traffic

Thursday, December 15, 2016

In December 2015, as part of the City’s bridge inspection program, the contracted structural engineer noted load bearing deficiencies. As a precaution, and in the interest of public safety, the bridge was closed to vehicle traffic.

The former bridge, built in the 1930’s, was demolished and replaced with a new structure. Total cost of the project was $1.7 million and funded from the 2016 capital budget.

Final paving and miscellaneous construction on Government Road will be completed in 2017. No further full closures are anticipated as a result of this work.

Greater Sudbury Transit, 103 Coniston, will return to its regular route.

We thank residents for their patience while construction was taking place.
