No Charge Items

There are some divertible items you can bring to the landfill at no charge. In order for these items to be free of charge they must be clearly separated from other waste types and easily visible to the attendant.

Place them in the appropriate diversion areas for reuse and recycling.

If you are bringing in sorted chargeable and non-chargeable items in a single load, you must go over the scale twice in order to only be charged for the weight of applicable items. Alternatively, you could opt to bring these items in separate loads.

If divertible no-charge items are mixed with garbage, then the appropriate fee will be applied.

No charge items include:

  • Blue Box recyclables
  • Green Cart materials (organic food scraps and non-recyclable paper products)
  • Scrap metal (sheet metal, siding, roofing, pipes, window frames, car parts)
  • Electronics (computers, phones, keyboards, printers, fax machines)
  • Appliances (refrigerators, ovens, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, air conditioning units, microwaves, hot water tanks)
  • Reusable cloth items (pillows, blankets, sheets, towels, clothing, purses, belts, shoes)
  • Leaf and yard trimmings (leaves, grass, twigs and branches, natural trees - no wider than 2 feet and no longer than 8 feet without stumps, roots or soil). Leaf and yard trimmings must be delivered loosely or in compostable paper bags.
