Requirements for all locations

  • Outdoor patios, sidewalk retail and cafés must have a business licence or registration issued by the City of Greater Sudbury.
  • Outdoor patios, sidewalk retail and cafés must provide confirmation that all licensing requirements normally required to operate their business have been met (e.g. Fire Services, Public Health, Liquor Licence etc.)
  • Business owners must provide a Certificate of insurance of $2 million naming the City of Greater Sudbury as 3rd Party Insured when operating on a public road allowance.
  • All businesses must follow Public Health requirements for both staff and clients to operate a COVID-safe establishment, including physical distancing, cleaning and disinfection protocols.
  • Outdoor patios, sidewalk retail and cafés are permitted to operate until October 15 of each year. This date may be extended weather permitting. Under exceptional circumstances, the City of Greater Sudbury may order closure prior to that date with 24-hour notice.
  • Outdoor patios, sidewalk retail and cafés must provide access to indoor washrooms for both patrons and staff.
  • Outdoor speakers and/or sound systems are not permitted.
  • Smoking is not permitted in spaces occupied by outdoor patios, sidewalk retail and cafés. All requirements of the Smoke Free Ontario Act must be maintained.
  • Exterior signs must adhere to the City of Greater Sudbury Sign Bylaw.
  • Applicants must agree to abide by all other pertinent municipal bylaws.
  • The City of Greater Sudbury has the right to suspend permissions based on unresolved complaints.
