Provincial Quality Standards
Licensed child care settings in Ontario are regulated by the Child Care Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) to ensure high standards of safety and quality and must meet certain criteria including:
- maximum group size and ratios for staff and children in care
- staff qualifications
- policies and procedures to support health, safety and well-being of children in care.
City of Greater Sudbury Quality Standards
The City of Greater Sudbury Children Services Section has designed a Consultative Quality Improvement model (CQI) to further enhance quality of child care and early learning programs in Greater Sudbury. This is based on continuous learning, provided through a variety of professional learning opportunities and regular on-site consultations.
Together, the CCEYA and the CQI work to ensure high quality within all licensed child care settings within Greater Sudbury.
Early Childhood Educators
Licensed child care programs employ qualified Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) who study child development, curriculum development and child guidance.
RECEs are members of the College of Early Childhood Educators. As professionals, they are committed to and guided by their Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
Licensed home child care agencies have carefully screened, approved and supported caregivers who keep current with early childhood education development issues and trends.
