Mayor Brian Bigger's 3rd Annual State of the City Address

Greater Sudbury, Ontario – In his third State of the City address hosted by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Brian Bigger discussed City Council’s progress in 2016 and into 2017 in a number of key areas including investments in infrastructure, plans for asset management, and enhancements to transit services to a sold out audience at the Radisson Hotel on Tuesday afternoon. 

“What we’ve done as a Council thus far is tremendous. We’ve put in place a strategic plan, which serves as a roadmap for staff to follow. We’ve taken a good hard look at our assets, and prioritized how to fix them in line with what makes sense for the community, and that is reasonable. We’ve put a financial plan in place for the City to follow, so there is a clear path forward on how we are going to spend the money you’ve entrusted us with”.

Mayor Bigger also emphasized positive economic development activity taking place across the City and the need to forge ahead with strategic investments. “Instead of leaning back, we need to lean in. What it comes down to is being able to spend the right money at the right time. We have the capacity to borrow money to grow our community in an affordable way”.
Mayor Bigger also reminded the audience of the upcoming special meetings of City Council on June 27th and 28th regarding the large projects endorsed by City Council and that he is looking forward to these discussions. 

The Mayor concluded his remarks by thanking guests and stated “I remain confident that we are on the right path forward and we will achieve our goals when we work together”.
