The City of Greater Sudbury is being recognized by the Government Finance Officer Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The City has received the Distinguished Budget Award for the 2014 Municipal Budget. This is the highest form of recognition in government budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the City.

“This award reflects the dedication we continue to make toward financial integrity,” said Doug Nadorozny, Chief Administrative Officer. “I’m pleased to join other award recipients in this category as we lead the way to improving the quality of budgeting and provide an outstanding example for other governments in North America.”

The GFOA Distinguished Budget Award was established to encourage local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting. Municipalities must satisfy the four nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation including: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

This is the second award received by the GFOA this year. In June 2014, the City received the GFOA Award for Financial Reporting for the 2012 Annual Financial Report.

“We continue to be committed to further establishing transparency and full disclosure for the City’s financial reporting and budget process.” said Lorella Hayes, Chief Financial Officer/City Treasurer.
“We look forward to continuing to produce high level budget documents as we head into yet another challenging budget year.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada.
