The City of Greater Sudbury, through decisions of City Council, and with guidance from Public Health Sudbury & Districts, continues to take additional steps to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community.

To ensure the practice of proper social distancing measures, and to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community, Tuesday’s City Council meeting will not be open for the public to attend in person.

As we start out and navigate another week ahead of us, I just want to reiterate what Prime Minister Trudeau said earlier today in his daily address and update to the nation.

The City of Greater Sudbury, with guidance from Public Health Sudbury & Districts, is taking additional steps to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community, while maintaining services that are essential to residents and businesses. 

Ramsey Lake Skate Path, Queen’s Athletic Skating Oval, outdoor rinks, Adanac and Lively Ski Hills are now closed for the season.

As we enter our second day of the provincial state of emergency, I just want to appeal to every resident of Greater Sudbury to remain calm but be vigilant in your choices when it comes to being outside of your home, commuting to work or going shopping

This morning Premier Ford declared a state of emergency for the Province of Ontario relating to the COVID-19 virus. I have spoken to staff today and the City of Greater Sudbury will be assembling our Community Control Group to assess the implications for the community this afternoon.

In consultation with Public Health Sudbury & Districts, the City of Greater Sudbury is suspending public programs and temporarily closing a number of public facilities to promote social distancing and limit the potential spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Today, Mayor Brian Bigger received news from Public Health Sudbury and District indicating that his test was negative and he does not have the COVID-19 virus.

The City of Greater Sudbury continues to work closely with Public Health Sudbury & Districts and community partners to monitor COVID-19 developments and respond appropriately.

"Given the recent news regarding a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Sudbury originating from PDAC last week in Toronto, I have found it in the best interest of myself, my family and my co-workers and on the advice of public health to get tested for exposure to the virus.

With the first case of COVID-19 reported in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts, the City of Greater Sudbury continues to work closely with Public Health Sudbury & Districts and community partners to monitor the situation and respond appropriately.

The City of Greater Sudbury recognized Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for its continued investment in the community at a presentation prior to tonight’s City Council meeting.
