Mayor Matichuk to play role with Canada Nevada Business Council

Greater Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk has been invited to sit as an honourary member of the Canada Nevada Business Council (CNBC) based in Las Vegas.

In April, Mayor Matichuk will travel to Las Vegas as a guest of the council to meet with key community, business and mining industry executives.

“This is a significant opportunity to foster partnerships and promote Greater Sudbury on a global stage,” Mayor Matichuk said.

“I know members of the CNBC are excited about the future of our city and very much want to be a part of it. This is the beginning of a long and prosperous partnership.”

Mayor Matichuk connected with the Canada Nevada Business Council during the MINExpo conference in Las Vegas late last year.

Not long after, Frank Spady, the CEO of CNBC, Bob Groesbeck, Vice President Government Affairs/General Counsel, and Larry Scheffler, COO, were invited by Mayor Matichuk to visit Greater Sudbury and make connections with the city’s business and community leaders.

Initially attracted to Greater Sudbury as home to the largest integrated mining complex in the world, CNBC is now developing memorandums of understanding in health care, education and tourism, as well.

“The state of Nevada has a long and proud history in mining. Through Mayor Matichuk's leadership, we were able to experience first-hand why Greater Sudbury businesses are recognized globally as leaders in the mining supply and service sectors. That expertise, we believe, lends well to the needs of Nevada businesses in the mining sector and elsewhere,” said Bob Groesbeck, of CNBC.

“We are pleased that Mayor Matichuk has agreed to join our board, as I see great synergies between our two areas,” Frank Spady, CEO of CNBC added.

In Las Vegas, Mayor Matichuk is expected to meet the Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and the council of the City of Las Vegas, in addition to Mayor Andy Hafen of the City of Henderson, Nevada. Mayor Matichuk will also meet with representatives of the Nevada Mining Association, Barrick Gold Corp. and many other business leaders.
