The Fleet Services Section, Finance, Assets and Fleet Division, Corporate Services Department of the City of Greater Sudbury, requires three (3) Apprentices – Technician I.  The successful candidates must possess the qualifications and perform the duties, as set out below.

The current rates of pay for these positions are:

Year 1 – $20.08 per hour
Year 2 – $23.44 per hour
Year 3 – $26.79 per hour
Year 4 – $30.15 per hour

Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor:

  1. Inspect, repair, test and maintain all automotive, mechanical and construction equipment in the Infrastructure Services Department.
  2. Oversee and co-ordinate the activities of the Helper.
  3. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  4. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalency (as accepted by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU)).
  • Knowledge and/or experience in automotive and/or truck and coach and/or heavy equipment mechanics (e.g., courses in high school).
  • Must be willing to register as an Apprentice into the applicable Apprenticeship Program with the MTCU.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with recognized Apprenticeship hours.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with own tool kit valued at $500 - $1,000.
  • Must be able to acquire a Class “DZ” driver’s licence.
