Candidates/Third Parties

The campaign period for the 2018 Municipal and School Board Elections closed on December 31, 2018.

Candidates who had a campaign deficit were required to file a Notice of Extension form by December 31, 2018 in order to extend their campaign period to clear a deficit.

Key Dates

March 28, 2019

  • Last day for candidate or third party to apply to the Ontario Court of Justice to extend the time to file the financial statement for the reporting period ending December 31, 2018.

March 29, 2019

  • Deadline for candidates and third parties to file financial statement for the period ending December 31, 2018 (2 p.m.).

April 29, 2019

  • Last day for a candidate who violated the deadline for filing their financial statements to file along with $500 fee to avoid penalties.

June 30, 2019

  • End of supplementary campaign period for candidates and third parties who extended their campaign period to clear a deficit.

September 26, 2019

  • Last day for a candidate or third party who extended their campaign period to clear a deficit to apply to the Ontario Court of Justice to extend the time to file the financial statement for the reporting period ending June 30, 2019.

September 27, 2019

  • Deadline for candidates and third parties to file the supplementary financial statement for the period ending June 30, 2019 (2 p.m.).  This is a firm deadline.
  • The penalties for non-compliance may apply unless, the candidate files the required financial statement within 30 days and pays a $500 penalty or unless a court-ordered extension has been granted. Clerk to be advised of court application by 2 p.m.
