2017 Budget

Final Approved 2017 Budget

The Finance and Administration Committee deliberated the 2017 Operating and Capital Budget on December 6 and December 14, 2016.  During those two meetings, several changes were made from the base budget presented in November in order to approve a budget with a 3.6% tax increase and a 7.4% water/wastewater rate increase. For a typical home with an assessed value of $230,000, this is equivalent to an increase of approximately $100 over 2016 taxes.

The following reflects the overall approved 2017 Operating Budget and provides changes to the chart found on page 48 of the budget document.

Budget Summary 2017

The Committee approved several service level changes presented in the form of business cases. Some of these service level changes include:

  • An Asset Management Coordinator to help build policies and operating plans that ensure appropriate long-term planning for asset maintenance and timely renewal.
  • An extension of the Ramsey Lake Skate Path to the Northern Water Sports Centre to enhance the winter skate path for residents, and allow use of the Centre as a winter destination point.
  • An additional $2 million investment in road work with large spreader laid patches to reduce the reoccurrence of potholes.

The chart below reflects the adopted business cases from the proposed list on page 143 of the budget document and reflects all service level changes approved by the Committee:

  • Additional funds for the Brady Green Stair project were added to the budget with work to begin in 2017.
  • The Pioneer Manor parking lot project was removed and the funds were reallocated to the Nurse Call System.
