Department: Infrastructure & Emergency Services
The City of Greater Sudbury is committed to preserving and enhancing municipal infrastructure. The following projects will be updated on a weekly basis to inform motorists of potential traffic delays or new traffic patterns. Citizens who have questions or concerns related to municipal infrastructure are asked to call 3-1-1 for City information.
New Projects:
Lasalle Boulevard, Sudbury: Motorists are advised to watch for new traffic signals on Lasalle Boulevard at Crescent Park Road, starting Monday, August 27. New traffic signals are part of a road widening project on the western section of Lasalle Boulevard. Completion is scheduled for mid-September.
Radar Road: Replacement of a cross culvert on Radar Road, between Dupuis Drive and the radar base, will reduce traffic to one lane on Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30.
Guenette Drive, Hanmer: Replacement of a large road culvert will close Guenette Drive to through traffic, between Hydro Road and Notre Dame Street, from Monday, August 27 to Thursday, August 30. Local residents may access their properties to the east or west of the culvert installation.
Cedar Street, Sudbury: Cedar Street will close to traffic between Durham and Elgin Streets on Saturday, August 25, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a United Way / Centraide Sudbury charity event.
Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury: Notre Dame Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction, between Elm Street and Ste. Anne Road, for the Canadian Garlic Festival on Sunday, August 26, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Ongoing Projects:
Lourdes Street, Sudbury: Water main replacement and servicing has closed Lourdes Street between St. Raphael Street and Van Horne Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane for local access. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of August.
Southwest Bypass, Sudbury: The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has begun construction of the Long Lake Road interchange at the southwest bypass. Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays.
First and Third Avenues, Levack: Water main replacements on First and Third Avenues in Levack has reduced traffic to one lane. Work is expected to be complete by the end of September.
Kingsway, Falconbridge Road to Southeast Bypass: Work to widen the Kingsway, between Falconbridge Road and the Southeast Bypass, is underway for the 2007 construction season. When complete next year, this 4.3 km stretch will be widened to accommodate five lanes of traffic, paved sidewalks, landscaping, streetlights and storm sewers. Motorists should expect traffic delays.
