The City is undertaking Phase 1 of its Official Plan Review and Greater Sudbury residents are invited to share their comments at a series of open houses throughout the community.

“The Official Plan Review allows us to act today, in the interests of tomorrow,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger. “Share your vision for Greater Sudbury. What do you see for the future, and how do you think we can get there? The Official Plan lays the foundation for decisions about land use in the community, including protecting the natural environment, developing quality of life and place, and building a healthier community for all residents.”

Phase 1 of the Official Plan Review covers topics such as secondary suites, local food production, climate change adaptation, and water quality, to name a few.

“The Open Houses and public comment period for the Official Plan Review are important to ensure that the changes reflect the needs of the community,” said Greater Sudbury City Councillor Fern Cormier, Planning Committee Chair. “I encourage residents of all ages to take the time to share their 20-year vision for the City of Greater Sudbury, and have a hand in the decision-making process for the future of our city.”

About the Official Plan (The OP)
The OP is a blueprint to help guide Greater Sudbury’s development over the next 20 years. It establishes long-term goals, shapes policies and outlines social, economic, natural and built environment strategies for our city. It guides municipal decision-making on important issues that affect the daily life of every City of Greater Sudbury resident. From the location of schools and other community facilities, to the development of residential, commercial and industrial areas, these decisions shape the future of our community.

Phase 2 of the Official Plan Review will address matters related to transportation, infrastructure, and economic development.
