Residents Reminded Greater Sudbury ATV By-Law Remains in Effect

Jun 29, 2015

Residents are reminded that the City of Greater Sudbury by-law regulating the operation of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) on designated municipal roads will remain in effect, pending a review in response to new provincial legislation. Under the municipal by-law, only single-passenger ATVs with four wheels and a seat designed to be straddled by the driver are permitted on designated roads.

New provincial legislation comes into effect July 1, 2015, to permit the operation of multiple-passenger ATVs, including two-ups and Utility Task Vehicles (side-by-sides), on Ontario roads. This legislation does not currently apply to municipal roads within the City of Greater Sudbury.

A review of the by-law to regulate the operation of ATVs on designated municipal roads is underway and residents will be informed should the by-law be amended.
