May 29, 2015

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President’s Choice® and OLG, is coming to Greater Sudbury on Tuesday, June 2 for a community celebration at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park.

The local portion of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay begins at Dynamic Earth on Big Nickel Road with Sudbury boccia Paralympian, Lance Cryderman, who will carry the flame underground and to the base of our city’s famous landmark, the Big Nickel.

The relay continues from the corner of Ethelbert and Elm Streets, down Elm to Paris Street, over the Bridge of Nations and to the shores of Ramsey Lake at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre.

A community celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre with entertainment provided by the Northern All Stars Steel Pan Band, Darren McGregor and the Black Bull Moose Singers, and local songstress JoAnne Landry. Supervised sporting activities for children and outdoor workshops with Science North will take place near the main stage.

Olympic hockey gold medalist, Tessa Bonhomme, will accept the flame at Bell Park. The honour of final torchbearer and lighting of the community cauldron goes to Bob Rogers, who has been active in the healthy community movement for more than two decades.

Following presentations by Greater Sudbury Mayor, Brian Bigger, and special guests, Montreal’s Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra will take to the stage with a dazzling spectacle of music and dance.

All activities and parking are free of charge at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park. Follow @greatersudbury on Twitter and like us on Facebook for updates.
