Development Charges Public Meeting

The City of Greater Sudbury is accepting feedback on the proposed amendment to development charges by-law (2014-151) that would see development charge rates frozen at the June 30, 2016 level for one year. If approved, the phased-in and inflationary increases would  be implemented between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2019.

A public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on June 21, 2016 during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting in the Council Chamber of Tom Davies Square. Those interested in making a presentation related to the proposed amendment may preregister by contacting Clerks Services at 705-674-4455 ext. 2409 or by email at clerks@greatersudbury.ca. Presenters will be heard in the order they appear on the speakers list. Presenters will receive 5 minutes to make a presentation. Feedback may also be submitted online until Friday, June 17 at 4:30 p.m., at www.greatersudbury.ca/devcharges

All written submissions and those expressed at the Public Meeting will be considered prior to Council’s decision, anticipated during the City Council meeting of June 28, 2016.

Copies of the proposed amendment to the by-law and the background study from 2014-151 are available via the City’s website, Clerks Services and all Citizen Service Centres.

Development Charges are levied against new residential and non-residential development, and are a source of funding to recover growth-related capital expenditures. City services include water, wastewater, roads, drains, police and public safety, general government, libraries, cemeteries, fire, recreation, emergency services and transit.
