Culture Days at The Market this weekend: September 27 and 28

Sep 23, 2014

The City of Greater Sudbury will host Culture Days at The Market this weekend, September 27 and 28, with local musicians Jamie Dupuis, Danny Shamess and photographer Jamie Ruddy. Residents are invited to learn about free interactive arts and cultural activities happening in their community by visiting The Market between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Individual artists, cultural groups and organizations may register their arts and cultural activities at www.culturedays.ca

“We’re proud to support Culture Days,” said Michael Penwarden, Co-Chair of Greater Sudbury’s Cultural Plan Steering Committee. “A strong local arts and cultural community is important both for our quality of life and for the development of a knowledge-based economy.”

Launched five years ago across Canada, Culture Days represents the largest-ever collective public participation campaign undertaken by the national arts and cultural community. The annual event inspires greater participation in arts and culture by featuring free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to the behind-the-scenes world of artists, creators and historians.

The City of Greater Sudbury is currently developing a new Cultural Plan which will build on its Arts and Cultural Charter, Strategy and Grant Policy with the following goals: to create a community that is committed and supportive of arts and culture, proud of its character and heritage, values the economic potential and contribution of the arts, nurtures innovation and creative expression, and promotes strong collaborations and communication.

A Cultural Plan Forum will invite local stakeholders in the arts and cultural community to share their ideas on October 21. Interested individuals or groups are asked to contact Emily Trottier at the City of Greater Sudbury for more information at 705-674-4455, ext. 4429.
