City Welcomes New CAO, Ed Archer

The City of Greater Sudbury is pleased to welcome its new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ed Archer, on his first day with the organization.

“We are excited to have Mr. Archer as our new CAO. He brings with him a wealth of experience, passion for serving our community, and will take our municipality to the next level,” said Mayor Brian Bigger. “I would like to thank Interim CAO Kevin Fowke for his service over the last eight months. Kevin has brought a strong level of leadership and professionalism during this time of transition.”
Interim CAO Kevin Fowke has held the position since September 2015. Mr. Fowke returns to his role as Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development.

Mr. Archer’s first week will include various introductions with staff and meetings with the Senior Management Team, as well as attending the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 31.

“I am excited to join the team at the City of Greater Sudbury and look forward to starting a new chapter in this wonderful community,” said Mr. Archer. “I strongly believe that municipal government plays an important role in the quality of life for residents and I’m looking forward to working with the Mayor and City Council to help shape the direction the City will take in the coming years.”

Originally from Northern Ontario, Mr. Archer is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and a graduate of Lakehead University, with a Bachelor of Administration Degree (Accounting) and Bachelor of Arts Degree (History). He has served as Interim City Manager for the City of Regina and has held the position of Chief Financial Officer from 2014. From 2007 to 2014, Mr. Archer was the General Manager of Community and Corporate Services and Municipal Treasurer for the City of Barrie and President of Barrie Hydro Holdings Inc.
