City Thanks OLG for Continued Support through Community Enhancement Project Funding

The City of Greater Sudbury recognized the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for their continued support during a cheque presentation at Tom Davies Square on February 22.

The City received $2,092,224 for the April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016, fiscal year from revenues generated by the OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs. Since 2001, Greater Sudbury has received more than $37 million in non-tax gaming revenue for hosting OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs.

“Thank you to OLG, for your continued support to our community,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger. “The millions of dollars OLG has contributed to Greater Sudbury over the last 16 years has contributed to the growth and quality of life in our City and I look forward to many more years of partnership.”

The annual contributions from OLG are placed in the City’s general revenue accounts and are invested into capital projects throughout the community, such as roads.

“OLG is proud to be a vital part of Greater Sudbury for more than 16 years and we look forward to continuing to build on that support”, said Jake Pastore, OLG’s Director of Municipal and Community Relations. “Each and every year, 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work here in Sudbury and all across our province. And, we appreciate the contribution of our OLG Slots at Sudbury Downs employees in making life in Sudbury that much richer.”

OLG’s community enhancement project funding payments are made under an equitable formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement which determines the funds municipalities receive for hosting an OLG gaming facility. They are based on an escalating scale of gaming revenue consistent across all sites in Ontario.
