The City of Greater Sudbury has been working on a new process for handling sewage placed into private septic systems, also known as liquid waste.

The City is hosting an information session for members of the public to discuss the commissioning of the new receiving station and the new tipping fee implementation.

While the previous process for septic system owners who hire local septic hauling companies to pump out septic tanks will remain the same, liquid waste hauling companies will now be directed to transport waste to the Sudbury Wastewater Treatment Facility located on Kelly Lake Road. This is where the liquid waste will receive full treatment before being safely released into the environment.

The cost to receive and treat your waste will be recovered by the City through new "tipping fees" which will be charged to the companies who haul septic waste. Tipping fees will vary depending on the volume removed from a septic system.

This new process is targeted to start May 19, 2015.
