Answers

  1. Are you hiring right now?
The City of Greater Sudbury has Employment Opportunities posted throughout the year. All external Employment Opportunities which are open to the public are posted on our website at www.greatersudbury.ca/jobs and on the Citizen Service Centre Bulletin Board located at Tom Davies Square in the main lobby. Interested applicants are encouraged to check our website and the Citizen Service Centre Bulletin Board frequently for updates.

  2. How do I find out what positions are available at the City of Greater Sudbury?
Simply check the Current Employment Opportunities section of our website at www.greatersudbury.ca/jobs for all Employment Opportunities that we are currently hiring for. The Citizen Service Centre at Tom Davies Square has a Bulletin Board of all external Employment Opportunities as well. We also send our current employment opportunities to various Non-Profit Agencies, as well as all post-secondary schools in Greater Sudbury.

  3. How long are the external Employment Opportunities usually posted for?
Employment Opportunities are posted for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days. The closing date and time can be found on each Employment Opportunity. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit our website at www.greatersudbury.ca/jobs or the Citizen Service Centre Bulletin Board frequently for updates. Only open competitions are listed on our website.

  4. How do I apply for a job in the City of Greater Sudbury?
Please visit our How to Apply section for instructions on how to apply to an Employment Opportunity.

  5. Where can I pick up an Employment Application Form?
The City of Greater Sudbury does not have an Employment Application Form for Employment Opportunities.

We use specialized application forms for specific recruitments (e.g. Summer Student, Volunteer Fire Fighter and Paramedic recruitments). Please see each individual Employment Opportunity for instructions on how to apply. The application form would be provided on our website, as well as at all Citizen Service Centres across CGS during the recruitment process.

  6. To whom should I address my covering letter?
We do not provide the names of the hiring managers. All other information as to where to send your cover letter/resume will be indicated on the Employment Opportunity. It is important to read the directions carefully at the bottom of all Employment Opportunities in order to ensure that your resume is received properly.

  7. Where do I go to apply for a job that is posted for the City of Greater Sudbury?
Resumes can be dropped off or mailed to Citizen Service Centre, c/o The City of Greater Sudbury, P. O. Box 5000, Station "A", Sudbury, Ontario, P3A 5P3, faxed to: (705) 673-7219, or e-mailed to hrjobs@greatersudbury.ca. Applicants are encouraged to pay careful attention to these instructions, as sending your resume to the wrong place may delay it from reaching the correct person by the deadline.

  8. Do you hire high school students?
Yes, the City of Greater Sudbury is frequently looking for energetic high school students for various part time and casual positions (e.g. Service and Program Staff, Junior Arena Maintenanceperson, Page, etc.). These positions will be posted on our website at www.greatersudbury.ca/jobs and on the Citizen Service Centre Bulletin Board located at Tom Davies Square in the main lobby.

  9. Do you hire summer students?
Recruitment for summer students begins December 1 and closes on the third Friday of February every year for the upcoming summer months (usually April to August). Please visit the Student Employment page for more information.

  10. What documentation do I need to provide with my resume?
Typically, you are not required to submit copies of your credentials with your resume. If you are required to submit copies of you credentials with your resume, it will be indicated on the Employment Opportunity.  If you are selected for an interview, you may be asked to provide one (1) or more of the following: academic diplomas, training certificates, first aid / CPR certificates, etc.

If a Criminal Record Check is required, the hiring manager will request this if you are the candidate of choice. Please do not submit your Criminal Record Check with your resume.

  11. How do I apply for a job at Pioneer Manor, the City of Greater Sudbury Long Term Care Facility?
All external Employment Opportunities for positions at the City of Greater Sudbury, including Pioneer Manor, will be posted on our website at www.greatersudbury.ca/jobs and on the Citizen Service Centre Bulletin Board located at Tom Davies Square in the main lobby.

If you are living outside of the City of Greater Sudbury, you can dial 705-671-2489 and ask to be connected to Human Resources and Organizational Development.

  14. My friend works at the City and told me you are hiring for <<____>>, but I don’t see it on your website.

Any position that is available to the general public has the heading “Employment Opportunity” on it and has a number that begins with “EO”. A job posting that does not have this heading is not open to the general public, but is restricted to existing City of Greater Sudbury employees. Please refer to our website at www.greatersudbury.ca/jobs or the Citizen Centre Bulletin Board located at Tom Davies Square for all external Employment Opportunities.

  15. How can I be sure that my resume was received?
All resumes received before the closing date and time indicated on the Employment Opportunity are forwarded to the Hiring Manager.
