Landfill Tipping Fees

All waste must be generated within City of Greater Sudbury limits.  For more information, please click here.

All vehicles are required to stop at the weigh scales when entering a Greater Sudbury landfill site.  Please be prepared to pay tipping fees (if applicable) when delivering your garbage to the landfill site. Cash, cheques, debit, Visa or Mastercard are all accepted methods of payment at the landfill sites.

Are you a regular landfill site user?  Would you be interested in receiving electronic updates on fee changes?  If yes, please send us your e-mail address and we'll add you to our list.

Send your details to wastemanagement@greatersudbury.ca .

Greater Sudbury residents may bring household waste to the nearest City of Greater Sudbury landfills at no charge during residential tipping fee holidays this spring and fall.  Please refer to the Residential Tipping Fee Holiday Weeks page for more information.

Prevent Litter!

Cover your load.

Be sure your trailer or truck bed is properly covered, tied and secured when transporting waste to local landfills.  It's an offence under the municipal Waste Management Bylaw to litter our community with waste blown from your vehicle.

Weekly Allowances/Exemptions for the Residents Residing in a Residential Property with 6 Units or Less (low density residential properties)

The waste must be delivered by the owner in a private motor vehicle who resides in the residential dwelling in the low density residential building (6 units or less):

  • A maximum of 50 kg (110 pounds) will be exempt (no charge) per week
  • Loads that weigh 100 kg (220 pounds) or less - flat rate of $3
  • Residents in this category that would rather deliver their furniture and appliances to the landfill site instead of placing curbside for collection (if eligible) can do so at no charge. Want to deliver segregated items in one load? No problem – just go over the scale more than once to take advantage of lower fees. The more you separate, the less you pay!
  • Furniture and Appliances - sofas, tables, chairs, mattresses and box springs, stoves, fridges, freezers, hot water tanks and air conditioning units
  • Tracking of exemptions will be based on vehicle licence plates and any other technique determined to be necessary to track and identify the source of the waste. If waste is delivered over the 50 kg (110 pounds) in a one week period (Sunday to Saturday), and the fees were not assessed at the time of the delivery, the City may re-coup the fees and associated administration cost.
