Landfill & Small Vehicle Transfer Sites
City of Greater Sudbury landfill sites are licensed to accept non-hazardous solid waste. This excludes any quantity of the following waste materials:
- dangerous, hazardous or toxic waste;
- pathological waste;
- manure;
- any waste in semi-liquid or liquid form;
- dead animals (certain provisions available - call for details);
- soil or granular materials (will accept under prescribed conditions - call for details);
- asbestos waste (will accept under prescribed conditions - call for details);
- waste generated from outside the boundaries of the City of Greater Sudbury;
- any other item deemed unacceptable by the General Manager.
Industrial, Commercial and Institutional corrugated cardboard is banned from landfill. Segregate recyclable cardboard from your garbage stream. Either have a separate bin for recycling or deliver the cardboard and other recyclable items to the Recycling Centre.
The Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Sector is advised that the current landfill restriction of recyclable corrugated cardboard will be expanded to include all other blue box recyclable items, effective November 5, 2012.

Sudbury Landfill - Residents in the communities of Sudbury, Copper Cliff, Skead, Garson, Wahnapitae, Coniston, Falconbridge, Wanup and the Kukagami area are advised to deliver their solid non-hazardous waste to the Sudbury Site (Hwy 17 East, about 2 km past Mid-North Motors, across from the Chateau Guay Motel - Moonlight Avenue intersection).

Hanmer (Valley East) Landfill - Residents in the communities of Capreol and Val Caron, Val Therese, Hanmer, Blezard Valley are advised to deliver their solid non-hazardous waste to the Valley East Site (off Gravel Drive on Landfill Site Road).

Azilda (Rayside-Balfour) Landfill - Residents in the communities of Dowling, Levack, Onaping, Azilda and Chelmsford are advised to deliver their solid non-hazardous waste to the Rayside-Balfour Site (off Highway 144 on Montee Rouleau in Azilda).

Walden Small Vehicle Transfer Site - Residents delivering waste in small vehicles from the communities of Whitefish, Lively, Naughton, Worthington and Walden are advised that they can deliver their solid non-hazardous waste to the Walden Site (off Old Highway 17 W on McCharles Lake Road). All waste delivered to the site must be placed in the designated waste bin or area.
Household residents from the communities of Whitefish, Lively, Naughton, Worthington, and Walden also have the choice of delivering waste to the Sudbury, Hanmer or Azilda Landfill Site.
Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sources from the communities of Whitefish, Lively, Naughton, Worthington, and Walden also have the choice of delivering waste to the Sudbury Landfill Site.
